GNESD is one of several
Type II
partnerships in the field of Energy that were launched at the
World Summit on Sustainable
Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, August 2002. GNESD co-operates with a
number of Type II partnerships across the globe in order to maximise the
impact of the work carried out in GNESD and to create synergies across the
partnerships.
These are:
- The
Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP).
GVEP is voluntary Partnership that brings together developing and
industrialized country governments, public and private organizations,
multilateral institutions, consumers and others in an effort to ensure

- The
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Partnership (REEEP). REEEP is a coalition of governments, businesses
and organisations committed to accelerating the development of renewable
and energy efficiency systems (REES). Read more on REEEP at

The EU Energy Initiative (EUEI). EUEI
works together in partnership with the private sector, financial
institutions and civil society to achieve effective improvement of the
energy situation in partner countries. EUEI works through a demand-led
approach that involves both government-to-government liaison and local
