GNESD participates at the International Conference on Energy Access and Climate Finance

March 2013 – GNESD delivered a keynote presentation at the International Conference on Energy Access and Climate Finance held on 26-28 March, 2013, at the University of Twente, in Enschede, Netherlands.



Presenting on 'Biofuel sustainability: case studies and lessons from Latin America, Asia and Africa', Emmanuel Ackom of the UNEP Risø Centre and Programme Manager of GNESD was one of the key note speakers at the Conference.

The conference aimed

(i) to evaluate the possibilities to improve energy access and to stimulate the energy transition in all economies in an effective manner;

(ii) to reach a realistic assessment of the extent to which climate finance could be used; and

(iii) to evaluate the role of the private sector in energy access and climate change.

The conference covered themes such as Biofuels, REDD +, Technological and Policy innovations, and Gender, with special attention given to Africa, as this is where the majority of people live without access to electricity and clean cooking fuels.

The conference was organized by the University of Twente, in partnership with the UNEP Risø Centre, Energia (the international network on gender and sustainable energy), European Association of Development and Training Institutes (EADI) Gender and Development Working Group, and the Green Energy Initiative/Institute for Governance Studies, University of Twente.
