February 2012: Bioenergy- The potential for rural development and poverty alleviation
The publication presents case studies that suggest that bioenergy can effectively contribute to rural development and poverty alleviation if done correctly. The publication provides interesting findings that shows that the current sustainability discussion surrounding bioenergy actually provides immense opportunities for bioenergy, as it provides preconditions for acceptability and long term development of the sector. The publication covers 18 countries: Kenya, Mauritius, Brazil, Columbia, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, China, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Thailand, Indonesia, Senegal, Ghana, Mali and India and concludes by proposing 18 policy recommendations for consideration in developing the bioenergy sector further.
