GNESD at the Vienna Energy Forum 2011

During the Forum GNESD organized the Workshop on
Clean Energy Access for All - Case Studies and Policy Options. The
event was held on June 23, 2011 and attracted more than 50
participants from Government, Academia, NGOs, UN organizations and
the private sector. Download

The first session was dedicated to setting the stage on how to
achieve universal energy access by 2030. Philippe Lempp, Advisor,
BMZ, presented an overview of BMZ’s global energy access
activities. This was followed by presentations by Thomas
Johansson, GNESD Co-Chair, and Suani Coelho, Member GNESD and
AGECC, from CENBIO, Brazil. The first session concluded with a
presentation by Ogunlade Davidson, Hon. Minister for Energy and
Water of Sierra Leone, and Co-chair GNESD, who addressed policy
options to increase energy access uptake in Africa.
The second session of the workshop focused on best practices and
case studies. Akanksha Chaurey, Member GNESD and Director TERI,
opened the session with a presentation on GNESD ‘s own work on
energy poverty in cities, based on GNESD’s policy analyses on
Urban Urban and Peri-urban Energy Access (UPEA). This was followed
by country perspectives from Ghana where Abeeku Brew-Hammond,
Member GEA, Ag. Director, TEC and Mansour Dahouenon, GIZ Director,
Senegal who concluded the workshop by presenting experiences from
rural electrification projects in Senegal.
