GNESD Initiates a New Policy Analysis Theme
on Urban and Peri-urban
Energy Access
In 2009, GNESD concluded the first Urban Urban and Peri-urban
Energy Access (UPEA) theme, which focused on scoping and issued
identification studies. See documentary.
The new theme will identify challenges and policy
options to facilitate improved energy services to the urban poor
in developing countries, from the perspective of poverty
alleviation, environmental protection and productive use of
energy.
The upcoming study will focus on solutions to improve energy
access. A Summary for Policymakers and the technical country and
regional reports will be launched early 2012. For updates on the
